Baby Andy

Cooper, Mighty Mouse, and Andy
Andy is a brindle Boston Bull Terrier that we adopted in July of 2007. The first time I held him, his eyes were still closed and he fit in the palm of my hand. Naturally, I cuddled him up to my face to kiss him (who can resist the opportunity to kiss a puppy?), and he growled and growled as if he were a Pit Bull about to tear my face off. It was one of the funniest things I've ever seen, and it was love at first growl between us!

Their Names

When we add a new member to the family, we always take the time to get to know them so we can pick a name that fits their personality. Cooper, our Pug, was a rescue dog so he came with his name. Our Minpin, Mighty Mouse, was obviously named for his big ears and general mouse-like appearance, but he was also named for his natural braveness (or stupidity, however you might see it) because he attacks anything bigger than him.

We pained over Andy's name for four long days. What name could truly capture the sweetness of this little live, stuffed animal? He would run around like a mischievous little puppy, into everything, but the moment you picked him up he would relax completely and go limp in your arms, just waiting for you to hug him. Thus we have, "Raggedy Andy."

Andy's Soda Bottle

One of Andy's favorite toys is an empty soda bottle. It doesn't matter how tight you screw the cap on, he'll have it unscrewed and off the bottle within 5 minutes.
WARNING: If you let your dog have empty soda bottles, you must monitor him closely. A chewed bottle can have sharp edges that can cut his mouth.

Greetings

Andy and Mighty Mouse wait to greet each member of the family as they come in. They're usually happy, smiling, and wagging their knubs for tails, but they don't enjoy waiting to have their picture taken.

Ball! Ball! Ball!

Andy likes playing with the tennis ball. However, he will only play with the tennis ball in the house where he can slam into the doors and walls while trying to catch it. The best part of the ball game for Andy is making you try to get the ball back from him!

Hero Dog

This is an amazing story! A dog is hit by a car, and another dog pulls him to safety.

Andy Has Allergies

Boston Bull Terriers are known for their systems making an over-abundance of yeast, but poor Andy has terrible allergies too. When we first started him on dog food, we noticed that he would turn bright pink every night. At first, we just thought he was sleepy, but soon he began losing fur, breaking out in pimples, and giving off a smell reminiscent of dirty earth worms.

A quick search on the Internet revealed his breed's prevelent yeast problem, and we began feeding him only Eagle Pack Holistic Select Dry Dog Formula, Duck Meal and Oatmeal. According to Eagle Pack's website, "Eagle Pack® diets contain Holistic-Natural ingredients with added Holistic Supplements, at effective levels, to promote the health of your pet. You simply won't see the same results with any other pet food at any price." Quite frankly, we believe their claim is true. Andy's skin cleared up, his fur grew back, and that terrible odor disappeared within a matter weeks. He doesn't get so quite so bright pink anymore either, but his vet says his allergies will likely always act up now and then. Nothing a little Benedryl can't fix.

His skin was still slightly dry, but his vet recommended a daily capsule of fish oil squirted on his food, and now that isn't even so much of a problem anymore. Sorry Andy, no table scraps for you.
